As the first step, they are building a platform that allows writers to extend story lines

Games et al will come much later. Was created by combining two DAOs. So a very community led effort. I like that

Their staking mechanism is (was?) quite unique and had me doing all kinds of calculations to figure out the most value. A good hour of fun. Although if ded, it was a wasted effort :)

Founder NFT gives access to future drops. Not cheap (~$400)

Curio @0xcurio is building an on-chain strategy game. Has raised $2.9mn and is funded by Bain Capital Crypto among others

They are dedicated to building infrastructure for on chain games. But they are also building games. Not too many details at this point

.@mithraeumio has been under development for a while. Fully on-chain strategy game focused on politics and diplomacy

Has been running trials to test out the economy

Playing it will be rewarding rather than just holding NFTs

A friend said bot coders seem to have an advantage

Then there is @briqNFT on Starknet.

Essentially it is Lego on the blockchain. Not specifically making games per say.

But I guess Lego is play

Nyan Heros @nyanheroes is a free-to-play shooter game. Have heard good things about it. It certainly has good trading volumes

On Solana. You can currently buy NFT and stake it to earn their future token

Lattice @latticexyz is building a game @skystrifeHQ, a real time strategy game that they playtest every week

However, more interestingly, they are building MUD, a piece of GameFi infrastructure that will help on-chain games.

Guess it is similar to Gods Unchained, but better?

Until recently ...  when it saved me from a phishing link that would have emptied my wallet

People who follow my tweets know that I am conservative investor


I do not NFT much (don't understand them)


I do not do shitcoins (except that once I invested in some OHM fork)


The kind that hasn't suffered too many rugpulls/ scams



And then came an airdrop

It was late in the day. I saw the announcement and clicked a scam link in the next tweet (I assumed it was a part of the thread). It prompted me to check how many tokens had been allocated to me


I wasn't thinking straight and I almost signed the transaction

I would like to think that I would have caught the scam and wouldn't have clicked the final approve


But I am not sure. It was late after all


The extn showed I was signing away all my NFTs if I approved


Also, note to myself... never do anything crypto related late at night

These extensions simulate the transaction you are going to sign on the blockchain and show you the result of that transaction in words.


This functionality should really be a part of the wallet itself. But as of now, it isn't


So we are stuck with using extensions

Fire isn't the only one. I have heard good things about @stelolabs as well

So what are the best protocols on web3 right now that are not yet decentralised, and will survive bera?

Here is my list worth keeping an eye on (includes a yet-to-be-launched L2)

I love L2s, and am not a big fan of alternative L1s

@zksync is a particular favorite due to its commitment to give away a majority of ownership to the community

I am increasingly hearing good things about the @arbitrum team's focus on its ecosystem (wish they would stop teasing their airdrop though)

Have already spoken about @Starknet. Resource rich... with great valuation pre bera. So enough runway to make an impact

Another interesting L2 is @Scroll_ZKP. Great team pedigree. Run their node if you are technical enough.

Then there is @fuellabs_, an optimistic rollup

There is also an in-stealth L2 coming soon. Will write about it when the time comes 👀

@blur_io is good, but @opensea is the OG. And they are under significant pressure due to blur's success. Competition is good

Then there is @nftperp. It allows you to go long/short NFTs with leverage

Then there are real yield generating protocols (not vegetable farms)

@GearboxProtocol (has token) and @paxofinance are good protocols to leverage and farm. @ithil_protocol launching on Arbitrum soon

If done well, you can execute a zero-interest (or better) leveraged long/short

.@BrahmaFi for less risky farming with #gearbox (btw, they are cooking something new 👀)

@PolynomialFi allows you to take a directional view of the market  while benefiting from their expertise in choosing conservative parameters for capital preservation

@pikaprotocol for perps

Opyn (@opyn_) is probably one of the MOST innovative teams in defi

They constantly push the envelop on what is possible. In particular, check out their Crab-USDC strategy for the current market conditions

Love @DeFiSaver. This kind of automation for returns is a great usecase for defi

Having said that, I am disappointed by their rate of development. Their non-mainnet apps are bare, integrations are minimal (no gearbox?). Can the devs do something?

If you think social media is a good use case for web3 (and I do), then there is @LensProtocol

Twitter is too erratic under Elon. But imagine curation/tagging of content incentivized by tokens. And you subscribe to what you want/like. No censorship ... but no crap either!

For stablecoins, I like @trustlessfi and @MaltProtocol

Trustless is based on #Liquity and is on zksync

Malt is a unique take on stablecoins. Yet to prove its peg mechanics. But if it works, it will be fabulous!

Both will reward LPs/community rather than VCs

This may be controversial and unethical for some

But crypto is the only way you

- get truly fair (as can be) casinos and betting odds
- can be on the 'other' side i.e. the house

Look at @ZKasino_io and @azuroprotocol (and LP if you like the idea of betting against the bettors)

And cannot forget @taho_xyz, a community-owned wallet

For swaps, I think the only big one still without a token is @SlingshotCrypto

There is also this whole space of under collateralized lending + real world asset monetisation

This usecase still developing and winners will evolve

Starknet Update

I have written earlier about @BrahmaFi as a project I am fascinated by. Mainly because of the unique way in which they gate their vaults to sophisticated wallets

Today I will talk about how they are offering leveraged farming/staking using @GearboxProtocol

Today, to use #Gearbox, you need to borrow min 100k/75E. So, to run a safe stablecoin farm (~20% returns on Convex Curve sUSD), you need at least 18k to prevent liquidation (safe until sUSD>0.95)

For safe stEHT strategy, you need even more collateral (~30k) for min borrow

That is a lot of money! Enter #BrahmaFi!

Their TopGear vault takes FRAX as input, and uses Gearbox leveraged ETH staking

Recent analysis shows that their vault returned an equivalent of 20% APR although part of that is because of the time when they entered the position

So do not expect those returns going fwd

Right now, their vault leverages 3.6x which gives a return of ~6% in gearbox with liquidation if stETH falls to 0.957ETH

Returns depend on stETH apy, gearbox borrow rate (currently high IMO at 3.5%, variable), and leverage

Personally, I think the leverage is a bit conservative. But it does mean that principal is quite safe from liquidation

In addition, the vault also earns GEAR rewards (0.3%, varies). BrahmaFi plans to use these to subsidise vault entry gas fee

Also keep in mind that
1. withdrawals are processed in a month
2. 10% performance fee + 0.5% withdrawal fee

The vault of ~$570k is currently full but I hear they plan to increase by 150k on Monday

They are also building something new to connect with different products. Alpha signups happen in a week or so. So keep an eye out 👀

BrahmaFi does not have a #token yet. Investing in their vaults increases your #karma points which may impact your #airdrop if they ever do one

Although Gearbox borrow rates are variable, they do tend to keep them reasonable until their liquidity utilisation hits 80%+

That gives some assurance (although not a guarantee I guess) that borrow rates will not eat up all the returns

Finally, @GearboxProtocol  @BrahmaFi can you confirm that the TopGear vault liquidation does not depend on ETH price?

3/ Hacks make crypto more resilient

Three (controversial?) opinions. Let me explain

Firstly, what is good for crypto is not necessarily good for crypto investors today

It is INCREDIBLY sad to see people lose money to nefarious characters (SBF), badly designed tokens (UST), or hacks due plain stupidity (Ronin, wintermute)

But it does move crypto forward

1/ What SBF did is just plain illegal and should be punished

Just like Bernie Madoff, or the banks that rigged LIBOR, or the ppl punished for their role in the financial crisis

HOWEVER, FTX are not crypto! It is a Centralised Exchange just like Nasdaq, or DOW, or FTSE

Centralized exchanges merely enable on/off ramps & trading. They are nothing to do with DeFi or the ethos of crypto

It is like saying that just because Lehman/Goldman/Nasdaq has done something illegal, that taints all the shares (i.e. Shell, Microsoft, etc) traded by/on them

Real innovation in crypto is happening by the tokens listed there. The likes of Ethereum, Uniswap, Aave, Opyn, dydx, Maker, Optimism, and 000's of listed/unlisted projects

If anything, the blowup of 3AC, FTX, etc shows why crypto and the real investing world needs MORE DeFi

Defi is building alternatives to these centralised institutions

So we do not have to give them our money, then pray that they follow the laws and not fuck around with it.

I would rather have web3 protocols where my funds can be managed, but CAN'T be used for anything else...

... coz I own the keys to those funds OR the funds are locked in an open source (and hence auditable) smart contract

How is this not better than having an army of highly paid bankers trying to ensure regulatory compliance.. and sometimes failing?

Crypto allows you to bake the regulation into the system coz code is law

See @BrahmaFi for example (like many, many others)

I can invest my money in a specific vault which then runs a particular strategy to generate a yield

But there is no way my investment can be 'gambled' away coz the vault is a smart contract. It won't allow the money to be used for anything else

In addition, BrahmaFi probably has better gateway than TradFi to ensure only qualified investors interact with it

2/ Now let's talk about @stablekwon

Was UST/Luna a bad idea? Yes

Was it a ponzi? No

An important ingredient for ponzi is secrecy. You take from Peter to pay Paul, but no one knows you are doing this

Luna/UST mechanism was available to everyone to see/assess, and we all bought into the idea of 20% returns forever

In fact, some people did warn about the mechanism. But a lot of us chose not to listen

You can argue that Do Kwon could have done things differently He could have paused the chain, built up stronger reserves, etc

That proves ignorance, or over confidence. Maybe there is a legal case somewhere

But LUNA/UST itself wasn't a Ponzi

And that is an important distinction: Ppl's actions vs crypto experiments

Some work... some don't. Some are bat-shit crazy. Some, in retrospect, should never have been done (fuck 3,3/OHM)

But then, isn't bitcoin the craziest experiment of them all? That clearly worked

3/ Now let's talk about hacks

Crypto isn't perfect. Hacks are a plenty. But that is also because they build in public, all code is open source and there is huge incentive to hack

But imagine the resilience if they hold billions and are safe enough to not be hacked?

Financial institutions protect their code from prying eyes coz they are afraid someone might get access to it and exploit it's vulnerabilities. Do you think Goldman/Barclays would have the confidence to open up their live code to the world?

When my twitter account says Future is Crypto, I really do mean it

If the world is moving towards CBDCs, then why would we use the old institutions/infrastructure?

Wouldn't it be better to use battle tested, composable crypto protocols

Maybe eventually, all money will be "crypto" since all of it will be programmable and digital

Lastly, exchanges take customer money and should be regulated. Period

Sad that regulators prioritised KYC/ML before forcing, say, proof of reserves on exchanges

Shows they were only concerned with their tax money rather than protecting customers

And before I end this thread, let's talk about investors

As I said in the beginning, all of the above are risks of being a part of the crypto journey

Anyone who says this is easy money is a liar/fraud

But if you are willing to join the ride, understand the risks, and know how to navigate them, no one should be able to stop/regulate you.

Coz you know it is a going to be a fun ride...

and you will have the satisfaction of having contributed to a new way of doing things

And maybe... just maybe ... there is a pot of rewards at the end of it all

.@rocifi is new credit scoring mechanism that enables you to borrow more than your collateral

You bundle a number of your wallets (particularly if they are 200+ days old) and create a score and mint it

Go to https://roci.fi/?utm_source=nfcsid_6847&utm_campaign=no and click "Mint NFCS" on the top right

Once you have generated your score, go to the Collateral page and deposit some WETH (atleast $10. More is better ofc)

Then go and borrow some money. Depending on your score, you will be able to borrow more than your collateral (particularly if you have an old, good wallet)

You can either use this money, or deposit it in RociFi itself to test the workflow

One issue I have with RociFi is the number of transactions you have to approve to do the above. Fortunately, it is on Polygon where gas is negligible

The undercollateralization isn't much. My wallet had a score of 4 (which is best you can get) and even I had to collateralize 84%

It is better than 100%+ collateral though. And, tbh, I think being conservative is good
