This would enable users to resolve .eth domains just like traditional domains but through the #Ethereum blockchain which unlocks a huge scope of utilities. Here's how this could work:


What does Microsoft or any major platform need to do to accomplish this? Well for Microsoft, simply adding this integration into Azure DNS!

Microsoft integrates the library into Azure DNS services, effectively turning Azure into an ENS-compatible DNS resolver.



User Configuration: Azure customers can opt-in for ENS resolution within their DNS settings. This enables the DNS resolver to handle .eth domains.



DNS Query Handling: When an Azure user tries to resolve a domain like testdomain.eth the query is initially handled by Azure DNS.


ENS Resolution Through the Library: Azure DNS uses the integrated limo-web3-dns-main library to interact with the Ethereum blockchain and resolve the ENS name.


Blockchain Query and Response: The library sends a query to the Ethereum blockchain to resolve testdomain.eth. It receives the corresponding Ethereum address, IPFS hash, or other records.



Conversion and Caching: The received data is converted into DNS-compatible formats. It could also be cached for faster future resolutions.



User Response: Azure DNS sends back the resolved information to the user's system, completing the resolution process.



What Business Applications Are Possible Through This:



Decentralized Web Hosting: Azure could offer decentralized web hosting solutions where users can point their ENS domains to IPFS hashes or other decentralized storage solutions.



Blockchain-based Identity Solutions: Azure Active Directory could integrate ENS names as a form of decentralized identity, offering an alternative to traditional email-based identities.


Data Integrity: ENS could be used as a form of verifiable data integrity within Azure's data storage solutions.

ENS creates network directory for all of DeFi, turning cryptographic addresses & content into non duplicated human-readable names like 'satoshi.testdomain.eth'

3/12 🧪 Ok @DylanMeador - How does 'namehash' work?! Well, I'm glad you asked! It's a recursive function, working from the top-level domain and going deeper.

It uses the 'keccak256' hash function (the SHA-3 algorithm).

And to follow along, you'd need a library that implements 'keccak256' and 'namehash', such as ethers.js or web3.js. Shoutout to @ricmoo for that.
