Pipe Dreams is my first code art piece on Bitcoin. It's fully on-chain makes use of recursion with the p5.js library inscribed by @OnChainMonkey, and is inscribed on a special Alpha satoshi (the first in a new bitcoin).



I've made use of the parent-child provenance method available on Bitcoin, with Pipe Dreams the child of my genesis artist inscription. All of my work on BTC will follow this pattern, tying all inscriptions I make together on-chain.

Through gracefully revealed triangles and curated hues, this code-driven collection celebrates the elegance found in minimalist shapes.

The compositions in Chroma Dance are wonderfully infinite!



With each iteration, the code randomly selects a total number of points from 11 to 46. It then plots them in random positions on the canvas, keeping a minimum distance between them. Finally it joins all the dots, creating a unique composition of triangles that fill the area



To achieve this unified result that covers the canvas, I used a process called Delaunay Triangulation

The code then randomly selects one of the 47 color palettes I curated to fill each triangle. My palettes only have a maximum of four defined colors, which I then dynamically create a scale from that's equivalent to that random number of triangles, giving each a unique value



To add some texture and a slightly analog feel to the piece, I sourced and blended in an image of watercolor paper. I feel this brings the visual to a new level and almost looks like a photograph of a physical piece.





Always eager to deliver more with my pieces than simply a static result, I of course had to introduce some animation.

The dance, if you will!

First the triangles reveal themselves with a smooth and staggered fade in, as though entering the stage from right to left



After a set time, the artwork enters a graceful jump and twirl as it rotates 90 degrees, presenting your composition at a new angle. This continues until it eventually completes a full rotation, at which point the colors themselves do a dance and shuffle to other triangles



This dance continues endlessly, giving you multiple and continuous versions of your generated composition. It makes for a beautiful presentation, which can also be customised...

In fullscreen mode or if you open the piece directly, the menu reveals more presentation options:
- Background color
- Shadow toggle

Here's a behind-the-scenes thread about the making of this dynamic piece 🧵



It begins with the wonderful work of Lily, and an AI piece created in late 2022 using Stable Diffusion and Dalle2

"When Ben approached me with the idea for the code and colouration of a geometric piece, I thought immediately of this magician as homage to Ben himself, a skilled magician who makes impossible things possible." - @lilyillo



Having made a number pieces with code-drawn geometric / polygon shapes and animating their colours, I knew that a collab with @lilyillo would result in something special

The shapes and colours in her magician piece were perfect. Also I'd need to go to a whole new level 😅









To draw these shapes in code I need to plot all their points on the canvas as x and y coordinates, which I can then fill with colour

The first step is tracing them in a vector based program like Adobe Illustrator, and save as SVG

I did this for 522 shapes in total!



It was important to retain the beautiful textures in Lily's work and not just have the flat coloured shapes take their place

To achieve this I created a high-contrast grayscale image of the portion of the art my shapes covered, which I'd later apply a Darken blend mode to



I now had all the visual assets I needed and was ready for coding.

First I used a custom script I wrote, that takes shapes in the SVG file and converts to an array of Javascript objects with x/y coords of the shapes points and rgb values of their colour



A bunch of code, plus the help of a few libraries (P5, GSAP, Chroma) and I had the piece working. I wrote functions to animate colour changes, both random shuffles and specific colours. Also directional changes and to/from click points

Finally I blended the textures in



Having experimented with running code in time to music on my Seascapes 1.x, I thought it would be great if the magician did a real-time performance to music

I found the perfect track by Geoff Harvey on Pixabay, received permission and coded in the cue points in time to it





Just a reminder that this isn't video playing the magician's performance, but rather code being triggered at cue points in time with the music. Along with some of the specific directional and solid colour changes, there is lots of randomness which differs each performance



@lilyillo and I are so delighted with the result, and I'm personally honoured to have been able to collab on it

The pieces begin with original art from a PFP project I co-created in 2021 @EverydaySloths

It started by playing with how I could (re) use them as seeds for some brand new AI artwork, and in doing so unlocked this wonderful new species of creative people I call the Pimïni



I'll use my piece I made for #TezQuakeAid as an example. That particular work started with the below Everyday Sloths art as the seed image



I combined and tested this with an extensive set of prompts to try and get a result I was looking for, the first set of which I like was this



The one I really liked in this group was #2 as it was getting many of the elements I was after: some realistic features like the captivating eyes, and also the lovely patterns and textures on the skin, plus some subtle depth of field



I also tried some variations in the prompts to see what it would look like as a boy, resulting in this set



My fave once again was #2 and I liked this over the girl as it had many of the same features I wanted but he had a little more realism. I also loved the floral patterns that were clearly picked up from the tattoos in the original seed image



With feedback from @Pamela1Vh the next step was to further mix that realism with the artistic elements to create a more human-like but still otherworldly species.

I fed the selected result in as a new seed along with similar but refined prompts until I got what I wanted



The result was wonderful, but I specifically wanted a red background as I knew I wanted to blend the Turkish flag behind him.

A fresh prompt with a few tweaks and I had the vivid and stunning result I was after



Yet again #2 was a standout for me. I especially loved that he was looking front-on right at viewer, and the flowery elements were still there, but now as leaves



The final step was some post work and editing, where I fixed up the nose a little, bumped the colours, made his eyes a more vivid green, added the symbol from the Turkish flag behind him, upscaled it and gave it a painted finish

"Seascapes 1.x" features minimalist geometric seascapes in four main color schemes each representing a different time of day (morning, afternoon, evening and night) and a special hidden 80s inspired look. The night scheme also has a chance of rendering with stars ✨

Move through endless worlds and peaceful solitude of "Seascapes 1.x" as you observe the boats gentle sail and setting sun or rising moon, and the shadows reflect their movement in tandem.

"Seascapes 1.x" can be coveted as a 1/1 due it's random nature, with the following generative features:
- Sun and moon size and position
- Horizon line
- Boat position and direction
- Number and sizes of the mountains and terrain

I composed a musical score for "Seascapes 1.x" and coded a special experience timed to the music, while keeping the visual results completely generative so it's different every time. Best experienced in fullscreen + with headphones or quality speakers. Duration is 6 minutes.
