I love the dress... The entire look works so well. YES.

I cannot bring myself to crop John out... Chris's looks fan-tas-tic... Lovely to look at honestly.

When has she ever looked a mess on a carpet? Go ahead, lie. The entire look nje 😩

You know, there is a lot to be said for the work that hair and makeup and accessories do to complete an ensemble. I mean yes Dior shows up, her bawdy carries also but styling, hair, makeup here! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

Good job on the whole look. What is this fabric, it looks wonderfully soft?

It's the romance for me. Yes it isn't groundbreaking but remember carpets are for communicating "the brand" and the message is not always: IT Gyal.

This dress is fantastically made! What is it? The textile is called? Omg how was it stitched, machine or hand? Also the styling her is soooo good 🤤

a fashion moment. That dropped waist and draping. Is this chiffon? Whatever it is such a good choice *for her* and this carpet. Desi's legit giving oscars - one of those moments when you just know that were this on one of the faves it would get the recognition it deserves!

Another example of the perfect busy-Ness for the emmys

I'm bias but who said life is fair.

Now I keep talking about busy-Ness and the emmys, why? The #emmys are TV awards.

Why does that matter? This means they are often for artworks that are a part of our daily lives.

OK so...

So the TASK (and often challenge) for the style & brand teams of the artists attending is to:
+ respect the event's theme
+ show homage to the art piece being nominated

And.... This is the part that trips up most...

+ COMMUNICATE WHO THE ARTIST IS AS A WHOLE AND OUTSIDE OF THE "CHARACTER" WE KNOW THEM AS BECAUSE OF THE UBIQUITOUS SENSE OF TV MAKING IT SEEM LIKE WE KNOW THEM ALREADY

Do you see why the #Emmys2022 being the TV awards matter to the styling yet?

+ For those who are in the crew it means communicating who THEY are outside of the work we know

There is then also this tightrope to walk of connecting *your* artistry to the pieces that has you invited to the #Emmys2022

Now that we've highlighted why the gold carpet is important for the artists (and also the shows) as marketing, let's get into this whole busy-Ness business...

There exists communications clutter because of these being TV shows - there is so much out there! And it's not just star power but also characters and storylines and set designs and wardrobes and pop culture mythology and and and

Add that to the fact for most, being serialised also means that the artistry can end up being taken for granted - because it becomes a part of our daily routine.

Do you get? Our perspective of these artists and brands is so cluttered

so the #Emmys2022 is an opportunity to take us (our attention really) back from the monotony of our escapism.

Busy-Ness then becomes a tool - unlike w the Grammy's or Oscars where other tools are employed on the carpets like antics/ glamour and myth-making.

Becoming a larger than life version of "the artist" becomes a requirement on the #Emmys2022 carpet - that is why you'll find stylists hitting almost the exact same note w an artist year-after-year either via colour or genre but they all use texture aka busy-Ness...

This is because the #Emmys2022 carpet is not seen as a place to be overtly glam (save that for the Oscars, if you get there) so another way to weave your legend is texture.

That is why this carpet reliably gives us so much variation of textile or BANG for buck.

Texture or busy-Ness tells the tale and also provides a freedom (sometimes read as fun or casual essence) that other award shows lack in their fashion presentation, but respecting the theme (cocktail/black-tie depending on the year) keeps it from being verrrrry vma, ama et al

Aside, the emmys also provide a great opportunity to sip-and-see appropriate dinner party/ cocktail do/ wedding/ graduation/ other formal do attire for the season (that's the plus for fashion brands which is why they play)

That is why busy-Ness is a category (at least for me) for weighing these lewks.

It's a way to announce artists w/o being tew hype for TV or appearing to upstage the production.

A great example of fashion doing what it does: affecting how we move through (and perceive) the world

unrelated: most of the objections internet people think they have to "NFTs" are answered by the OP they reply-argue to. So I am starting to think NFTs don't have as a big a marketing problem as society has a functional literacy problem.

conversely very few of the objections internet people have to NFTs are well thought through. I am always looking for those. Those are valuable to the space because they are opportunities to build and grow.

example: "but what *are* NFTs really? (to the physical world)" is value

"but what *are* NFTs really? (to the physical world)" is value because it requires invention of the physical world applications that justify the physical world costs of NFTs - again, I think we obsess too much over fungibility it's not the crux here.

Fungibility is not the most important part of an NFT because from being around long enough anyone knows mere 1-of-1-ship is not justification for costs. I think we somehow ended up chasing our tails around the novelty of an NFT because the most famous application of NFTs is art.

But I repeat: fungibility or the lack thereof is not what makes an NFT valuable, the enforceability of the underlying contract does. Remember an NFT is actually a contract.

Let me dig into my commercial law days: there are 5 requirements for a valid contract.

the 5 requirements for a valid contract (in physical world law) which is the crux of NFTs, hence all this "enforcability talk":
1. value exchange/ payment
2. agreement/ signing
3. lawfulness/ legal intent
4. legal capacity/ competency
5. offer/ value

We, the zeitgeist, are currently obsessed with "5. offer/ value" because value is ephemeral. And the internet loves to wallow in a champagne problem. But as long as the parties involved deem it valuable it is, if you are not party to the contract your opinion to 5 does not matter

"1.value exchange/ payment" is happening at wild rates "for a jpeg" but like with the last tweet, your opinion on this also does not matter to the enforceability of the contract. same with "2.agreement/ signing" which is handled by the 3rd party and blockchain.

"3. lawfulness/ legal intent" and "4. competency/ legal capacity" are really where all the fun is and how crypto [and kind of blockchain] is illegal in certain places.
the anonymous nature of this entire transaction makes 4 hard to determine and thus could render an NFT invalid

"4. competency/ legal capacity" is where the value of an NFT diminishes. As a contract, this is where it gets messy and also interestingly the appeal of blockchain - anonymity. Again, not novelty or fungibility but enforceability for physical world application is the crux of NFTs

In order to enforce the contract in the physical world, the entity must be unmasked and if ever the contract is challenged or in dispute the entities involved must be unmasked.
This is where shell companies, DAFs and veiled trusts come into play.

In theory wherever shell companies, DAFs and veiled trusts (for example) are legal NFTs could be enforced and thus have physical world value. This is the justification for costs and not fungibility.

The value of an NFT is whether or not it is a legally enforceable contract.

The value of an NFT is whether or not it is a legally enforceable contract. This is why all the enforceability talk these days:
https://twitter.com/thebusisiwetoo/status/1471736691530600448?s=20

Enforceability is means to justify the physical world costs "for a jpeg"
https://twitter.com/naval/status/1470861425405050880?s=20

Now the legality of an NFT wherever you're a legal entity entering into an NFT is not as sexy as its scarcity or uniqueness💁🏿‍♀️
https://twitter.com/naval/status/1470861425405050880?s=20
So my bet is that for the foreseeable future internet people will continue to debate @naval's tweets about the fungibility of NFTs

So I am reading Monday Musings [https://ckarchive.com/b/k0umh6hx93r2] by @david_perell and he brings up something curious: tech co.s kinda run on writing, as a writer I take my skill for granted so I missed this insight!

It's a truly powerful one, this insight, here's my take on it. It is a result of the convergence of multiple trends: hurry up and wait culture, globalisation, creator economy, digital economy, remote working.

Hurry up and wait culture refers to the speed of our interactions. We are in a rush to get things out there in order to get the best results in the shortest amount of time [hurry up]. IRL though everything takes time and people are busy [and wait].

Text is great for these types of business interactions because it is always there, waiting for you and a clear record of what exactly is being said/ asked/ required.

If you are a millenial w any high school education (or a marketing student, ha!) then you know what globalisation is. It is way more convenient to communicate or set times for communication w people all over the world via written text.

The creator economy is one that we are all saying is leaning towards video but how much of what we create is actually underpinned by written text, the correspondence regarding these deals, accessibility means etc

Think of the digital economy as a paper mache cup made up of all the business and consumer correspondence required to be operational and profitable today and the creator economy as the liquid inside of the cup. Writing is everywhere especially with remote working.

Clear, compelling writing is becoming vital for business. I am ultra curious about what that means for all the people pivoting their careers rn. A lot are already leaning heavy on content...I have my feels about that. But upping written comms skills seems to be a must either way.

Let me read this thread to see what else David has to say about business becoming writing heavy in the near future:
https://twitter.com/david_perell/status/1445093176155516934?s=20

I can attest to this. The pen/ or note taking app is truly mighty! https://twitter.com/david_perell/status/1445093179976560650?s=20

I made this point earlier. Written text is a means for clear, efficient communication when done well: https://twitter.com/david_perell/status/1445093182342156303?s=20

I believe internal comms is becoming a huge deal for the smooth running of a growing organisation. I spend a lot of time writing about it in Simple. Good copywriters are imperative for this: https://twitter.com/david_perell/status/1445093184015675402?s=20

A lot of time is spent during brand development on unearthing values and approaches. But well handled internal communications does this for you by going beyond the talk, and putting it into the day-to-day:
https://twitter.com/david_perell/status/1445093185491976193?s=20

This is every entrepreneurs dream, and the trajectory of writing and tools today is paving a path to its fulfillment. During the 2010s this was called "thought-leadership" but I think we are seeing that it is interestingly more than that: https://twitter.com/david_perell/status/1445093187379474434?s=20

On the point of a new type of communal leadership, old leadership models would frown on this suggestion but it is an example of a great symbiotic relationship https://twitter.com/david_perell/status/1445093193943592978?s=20

@zebriez was David's thinking partner for this so let me get into this guide she created about it: https://koolaidfactory.com/writing-in-public-inside-your-company/

Aside: I also prefer the Pixel Method. It's way easier on the feelings.

So good.
https://twitter.com/i/spaces/1MYxNnZgrLLxw

Fantastic advice. In this space.

Get to the point where you are financially independent so that all your buys could go down to zero and you'd be okay.

I cannot get over how rare such practical advice is in anything (never mind a market). Take care of yourself first. Get to the point where you are secure (which is when your NFTs could all go to valuations of zero) and you'd be fine. I won't get tired of repeating.

Six months worth of runway helps to eliminate the anxiety (that you or others around you aka spouse could be feeling) when entering NFTs as a trader.

From a health perspective, spend time on your IRL. Spend some of your money on IRL items that encourage you to step away from the screen.

The Alpha Mine Podcast is by former traders who have now gotten into crypto and trading NFTs. They talk about all things crypto markets, but the rec here is regarding more practical advice: learn how to manage your emotions because markets are speculative and volatile.

Interesting perspective of an entertainment industry player no longer being inspired by entertainment because NFT is really community and art led rn. (I agree "we're in bizaro world... So have fun" and why I agree w buying on vibes)

Incase you occasionally catch whiplash from hearing the numbers casually thrown around in NFTs you are not alone 😂😩.

it's being highlighting that buying a piece on the side to avoid paying royalties is scummy.

(the glory of this era of art is that those involved can earn royalties so it is shady)

But yeah people generally try to avoid transaction fees (at the risk of getting scammed)

Misconception pointed out: transaction fee is cost to platform

In actuality it is part cost to platform + profit and mostly the royalty fee that goes to artist on opensea.

Pointed out that Opensea in this regard is a phenomenal platform because the artist can chose what percentage royalties to charge.

But check royalties on platform for resale/ secondary (if you're a creator).

Mentioned that creators don't charge royalties, some charge high royalties. (it's interesting to see what the norm becomes re: artist royalty culture)

Technical solutions to this will be developed because good faith is not enough to protect artist royalties.

Settling, if you are adamant about this royalty protection. Look into writing your own contracts for additional protections because these smart contracts are currently not all the way upheld in traditional courts (I'm looking into any cases, please share if you have some)

I'm trying to figure out a format for these types of threads can't use quotation marks because I'm paraphrasing...

So I'll drop 🎙️for what's said in the space and 🤔 for my views

🎙️Tech protections must be worked into the contract to protect artist royalties

🎙️Issue w how Opensea currently holds royalties *que unrealised capital gains memes*

🎙️Repetition helps deal w trading anxiety.

🤔 Referring to this as trading is making me realise how many career opportunities for art majors in this space. (looking into these now)

🎙️How to reconcile mentees/ clients that seem to not hold NFT community value? Celebrities are used as examples of good and bad cases. Basically, welcome the open, honest and learning as an opportunity. Ask your audience to come along for the value-holding celeb ride.

🤔 I think the question was more "Where there are redflags pointing to cash grabs what do we do?" hasn't been answered yet.

🎙️There are redflags how do I get out? (because this is shady.)

🎙️Try to leverage the relationship to educate the shady client and others the right way.

🎙️Discuss publicly to educate more people via his audience and yours.

🎙️Do your best but trust your gut about cash-grabbing.

🤔 Celebraties are a great point for educating more people about the space.

🎙️Weigh out influence on your reputation w potential to educate more people.

🎙️Not the lightening network shade 😩😩😩🤣
